I look up at the impossibly handsome stranger again, noting his unchanged expression.<\/span><\/p>\n

He isn\u2019t taking the hint.<\/span><\/p>\n

Or, more likely, he\u2019s ignoring <\/em>eso.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suspiro<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It looks like I\u2019ll have to be straightforward with this one.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCan you move so I can get out of your chapel?\u201d I quip. \u201cYou know, since I\u2019m trespassing <\/em>and all?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He leans in, his gorgeous face now mere inches from mine, completely ignoring my request. \u201cWhat were you doing with the chalice?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My eyes immediately shoot downwards as I turn my attention to the object he\u2019s speaking of and its spilled contents laying on the floor next to us. I\u2019d all but forgotten about it since this fellow stunned me into oblivion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh\u2026I just\u2026I was just looking at it,\u201d I say.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Sort of<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLiar,\u201d he smiles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Okay, whatever. I guess I\u2019m a liar.<\/span><\/p>\n

But I\u2019m not admitting that to this stranger, no matter how good-looking he is.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI swear that\u2019s what I was doing,\u201d I insist, avoiding his eyes so I won\u2019t focus on how endearing he looks when he smiles. \u201cJust. Looking<\/em>,\u201d I repeat, trying to sound as sincere and grounded as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

He scoffs. \u201cAnd you just so happen to look at things with your lips, right?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My eyes shoot right back to him in shock, realizing that he\u2019s been watching me for longer than I thought.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh gosh, did he see all of that? How long has this creeper been stalking me? <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

His eyes instantly narrow at me and he\u2019s beginning to scowl again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cStalking<\/em>?\u201d he admonishes with another scoff. \u201cYou barge onto private property and I\u2019m<\/em> the creeper?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI told you to cut that shit out!\u201d I snap, no attempt to veil my annoyance, the words escaping me before I can stop myself. \u201cStop reading my thoughts!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He arches his eyebrow and cocks his head slightly to the side, almost mockingly. \u201cI can\u2019t help it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I huff incredulously, placing my hands on my hips in frustration. \u201cYes, you pueden<\/em>. You just don\u2019t want <\/em>to.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you would know that because\u2026?\u201d he counters.<\/span><\/p>\n

I just shake my head in resignation. \u201cLook, I don\u2019t have time to argue with you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Goodness, am I still dreaming? I need to wake the hell up then because I\u2019m not really sure where else to go, and I don\u2019t want to be stuck with The Annoying Hottie over here for much longer.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I see a smirk forming at the corner of his mouth. \u201cYou don\u2019t like my company now?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He may have the best lips I\u2019ve ever seen, dream or not, but I\u2019m not going to let him get away with violating my personal space.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI swear to God, if you invade my thoughts one <\/em>more time\u2014\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSettle down, kitten,\u201d he interjects, his tone amused. \u201cNo need to get hostile.\u201d He seems to be inching even closer.<\/span><\/p>\n

I cross my arms over my chest again, partly in defiance and partly because I\u2019m getting nervous. \u201cEst\u00e1s<\/em> the one who won\u2019t move out of my way,\u201d I say, trying to sound firm despite my increasingly frazzled nerves. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not your kitten<\/em>,\u201d I add with a sneer.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stares at me intently, with no response for my words.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Suddenly I feel like a chihuahua being stalked by a coyote.<\/span><\/p>\n

A really, really <\/em>big coyote.<\/span><\/p>\n

I swallow audibly, and immediately hate myself for showing such obvious discomfort.<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s already pushing me around as it is. My display of anxiety will only encourage him to keep doing just that.<\/span><\/p>\n

I really need to not be here right now\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s your name?\u201d he asks suddenly.<\/span><\/p>\n

I frown. \u201cWhat\u2019s yours?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He crosses his arms casually, the gesture smooth and effortless. \u201cI asked you first.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My forehead scrunches up, mirroring my growing irritation. \u201cAnd I asked you second.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He arches his eyebrow mockingly again. \u201cWow, you <\/em>certainly worked up an attitude in the last five seconds.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, boo hoo,\u201d I retort, letting the sarcasm roll off my tongue, childish as it may be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t care for his smart-assed remarks but I decide to disregard them. He clearly isn\u2019t letting me leave so I figure I might as well be the one asking the questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo\u2026where are we, anyway?\u201d I say, changing the subject. \u201cWhat is this place?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And what was in that bronze cup?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou mean the one you tried to drink from?\u201d he smirks.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t stop myself from scoffing. \u201cAre you just trying<\/em> to be disrespectful?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAre you just trying<\/em> to deter the conversation because you know you were caught stealing?\u201d he counters, the amused grin still toying with his distracting lips.<\/span><\/p>\n

My eyes widen in disbelief. \u201cStealing<\/em>? You\u2019re calling me a thief?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t say you are,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut you insinuated <\/em>it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He takes in a deep, audible breath. In spite of his mocking facade, I can tell he\u2019s starting to get mildly irritated as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not that I care.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI apologize if it came off that way,\u201d he says after a pause, his voice calm, deep. \u201cBut if anything, yo<\/em> should be mad at you for trying to take something that isn\u2019t yours\u2014without the permission of its owner. That es <\/em>the definition of stealing, you know.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I want to give him a mouthful of my own definitions\u2014ones that\u2019ll wipe the smugness right off his gorgeous face\u2014but\u2026he\u2019s right.<\/span><\/p>\n

The chalice isn\u2019t mine, even if the dream es<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t have a real comeback for his statement, so I decide to move the conversation in a direction that I\u2019m more comfortable with\u2014without<\/em> the negative attention on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo\u2026the cup is yours<\/em>?\u201d I say, looking back to the toppled chalice on the ground. \u201cAnd this is your\u2026chapel<\/em>?\u201d I add with uncertainty, gesturing to the vast space around us. \u201cNo offense, but you look a little young to be a priest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo offense taken,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd you presume incorrectly. I\u2019m no priest.\u201d He chuckles as he adds, \u201cQuite the opposite, actually.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re a cult leader then?\u201d I mock, mirroring his previous facial gesture and arching my eyebrow.<\/span><\/p>\n

He full on laughs at that, the delicious sequence of sounds rumbling from deep within his broad chest, followed by a slight shrug. \u201cI suppose you could say that, yes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I pale at that statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was only kidding about the cult leader thing.<\/span><\/p>\n

A small but noticeable pause ensues. I\u2019m unsure of what to say, but I don\u2019t want to freak out, especially if he\u2019s just trying to pull my leg.<\/span><\/p>\n

I take a deep breath, figuring I\u2019ll just go with it; play along with this little game of his.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSooo\u2026you\u2019re a Satanist<\/em>?\u201d I quip.<\/span><\/p>\n

He winces a little, as if offended. \u201cThat\u2019s kind of a strong word, don\u2019t you think?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My eyes bulge at that response. \u201cY-You\u2019re not denying <\/em>it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m alarmed now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Definitely alarmed.<\/span><\/p>\n

But how can I know what he\u2019s saying is true?<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe he\u2019s a liar, too. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAre\u2026are you being serious?\u201d I ask, waiting\u2014hoping<\/em>\u2014for him to say he isn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n

He shrugs again, his expression turning nonchalant. \u201cI\u2019m not a Satanist, but I am <\/em>what you would call\u2026a soul reaper<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A pause ensues.<\/span><\/p>\n

And another one.<\/span><\/p>\n

And another.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m almost not sure I hear him\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

And then, for some reason, those two words resound and register in my head as clear as a cloudless day:<\/span><\/p>\n

Soul. Reaper.<\/span><\/p>\n
